2025 Economic Report Finds that 25% of All Goods Exported from Ontario are Domestic Mineral Exports

The most recent State of the Ontario Mining Sector report, published by the Ontario Mining Association with support from Ontario's Ministry of Energy and Mines, reveals that Ontario’s domestic mineral exports were $64 billion in 2023, with $42 billion exported to the United States. The report leverages the most recent data available to highlight the mining industry’s strategic role in the provincial economy and feeding global markets.

The lack of a robust workforce pipeline is a critical challenge facing the mining sector in Ontario, with not enough workers to maintain existing operations nor meet growing demand for minerals and metals. A study conducted by Ipsos and Prism on behalf of the Ontario Mining Association, in partnership with the Ontario Labour Market Partnerships program, reveals the compounding factors driving the significant hiring needs in the sector and offers a data-driven roadmap to success. 

2022 Study Outlines Strategic Opportunities in Critical Mineral Production and Global Supply Leadership

The OMA's Critical Mineral Analysis report, published with support from the Ministry of Energy and Mines, outlines several competitive advantages of Ontario’s mining sector, including strong mineral endowment and exploration potential. With demand for critical minerals surging, the province can leverage its endowment to become one of the leading global suppliers of certain critical materials to other jurisdictions whose advanced manufacturing sectors are reliant on imports.
